How can I honor special friends and relatives at the Bris?

Here is a list of honored roles that your guests may play at the Bris.  The honors are listed in order of importance. Guests receiving honors should be Jewish.  The *starred* honors are required for the ceremony, the rest of the honors are optional.

*Sandek:  This is considered the most honored role.  This person will hold the baby while the Bris is performed.

*Sandek sheni or Standing Sandek:  This person holds the baby during the baby naming ceremony.

*Kvatter (male) and Kvatterin (female):  This is the couple that brings the baby into the room where the Bris will take place.

Leaders for Hamotzi (Blessing over Bread) and Birkat Hamazon (Grace after Meal):   People you wish to honor by saying special blessings over the festive meal (require ability to read Hebrew).

Other Honors:  Other honors can be designed if you wish (for example, multiple people can act as Kvatter/Kvatterin, readings can be assigned, etc.)

If you have somebody that you wish to honor who is not Jewish, please let me know and we can determine the best way to involve him or her.
